MERMAIDS AND DOLPHIMNS DIVINATION CARDS

ABOUT THE CARDS
MERMAID LORE
WITHIN EVERY STREAM, waterfall, brook, spring, well, pond, lake, and sea which is water divinity known as a Mermaid who possesses the gift of seeing the future. Mermaids personify the beauty and deceit of the sea, being long-lived supernatural creatures of dazzling beauty. Appearing as young women from the waist down, they are benevolent deities that who can cure the sick. It is their privilege always to remain young and beautiful because they are nourished on ambrosia, the spiritual honey of life.
The bare-breasted top half of a mermaid represents a mother or love goddess, wisdom beyond knowledge, kindness, nurture, shelter, growth, nourishment, and fertility. Mermaids symbolize the material realm within us, the inner voice of human intuition, and the life-giving powers found in the every person’s subconscious.
As well as Mermaids there are Mermen and their children, called a Meraele or Meraete, as well as child fish.
BEGGING THE WATER’S PARDON
People would pray to the Sea Goddess, mother of Mermaids and water spirits to forgive their sins and cure their sickness. To be bed the water’s Pardon, they would throw a piece of bread into the water, greet the water and speak three times this ancient exorcism:
I come to the little water mother,
With head bowed and repentant,
Forgive me, pardon me,
And ye, too, ancestors and forefathers of the waters.
DOLHIN LORE
Inspired by the ancient legend, the Dolphin became an allegory of salvation and a friend to man. They have always been associated with the possession of supernatural powers, and are believed to have much in common with humans.
Dolphins and Porpoises are members of the whale family collectively called Cetaceans, because they are mammals that have returned to the sea.
The Dolphin is widely regarded: he was a friend of Poseidon, finding him a wife, Amphitrite. Images of Dolphins marked the number of circuits horses run at race tracks. The Dolphin is associated with the anchor symbol of salvation. A Dolphin twined around an anchor an emblem of Francesco Colonna symbolizes the arrest speed and caution because the ancients believed the Dolphin to be swiftest of all marine animals. Dolphins also symbolize social love, dual cosmic flow, counterbalance, equilibrium, and equality.
The Latin goddess, Venus who was born from the foam of the sea, is portrayed with Dolphins.
Dolphins trust in humans as a sign of good from Poseidon the sea god.
